Description :

This good quality, matched set of six, solid silver, George IV and Victorian, dessertspoons, are in the fiddle pattern design with various dates and maker’s marks. There are on monograms but each has the same crest of a pair of wings to the top of the handles.

Condition :

Apart from the usual very small surface marks and fine scratches (part of their patina), they are in very good condition for 160 to 187 years old.          

Measurements :

They measure approximately: five spoons 18 cm long and one spoon 17.5 cm long with the combined weight of 284.3 grams / 9.14 oz troy.

Hallmarks :

The hallmarks are: the lion passant for English sterling silver, the leopards head for the London assay office, three spoons with the date letter for 1856, one for 1854, one for 1848 and one for 1829; the maker’s mark on four spoons is H J Lias & Son (Henry John Lias & Henry John Lias), on one for Joseph & Albert Savory and the other Adey Bellamy Savory; with the exception of one spoon having the head of George IV as duty stamp they have the head of Queen Victorian as duty stamp.
