Nelson - First Stock Car Meeting, Seedhill Stadium 1967 6x4 Photograph

“ After the Second World War, Nelson FC reformed and joined the Lancashire Combination League. Several years passed before Mike Parker introduced stock cars and then speedway to Seedhill Stadium, constructing the track around the soccer pitch. A speedway practice session was held on 15 July 1967 and was followed two weeks later by a Cavalcade of Sort event on 29 July.

The somewhat square-shaped track then held its opening speedway meeting seven days afterwards on 5 August, when Goog Allan took victory in the Olympiad. A further four open-licence meetings were staged that year before a team was assembled to join the British League Division Two in 1968.

A late start in 1970 unfortunately led to a congested fixture list and this, coupled with poor crowd levels, resulted in the team resigning from the venue. The side relocated to Odsal Stadium, where they completed their fixtures as Bradford Northern.

Prior to their move, the final meeting at Seedhill Stadium had taken place on 20 June, when Nelson defeated Peterborough 56-22 in a division Two fixture. At the time of the team’s withdrawal from Carr Road they had completed just eight league fixture.

Following the cessation of speedway, Seedhill Stadium continued to host stock car racing right up until 1978. The venue was demolished in 1980, to make way for the M65 Blackburn-to-Colne Road with Nelson Football Club relocation to a council-owned pitch a few hundred yards away in Victoria Park”.

All my photographs are printed using C-Type Photographic Printing (also known as Silver Halide printing) This is a 100-year-old dark room technology using light-sensitive paper and silver-based chemistry, a technology which has been constantly refined over time. Silver Halide photographic prints is one of the most archival forms of printing photos and preserving memories.

Each photograph is placed in a protective plastic protector and posted in a Card backed envelope with an extra card insert as extra protection to try and ensure the photographs reach you in perfect condition.
