* Please note this pattern has been a well used in the past, and sellotape and scuff marks from the original due to use and storage will be seen on your printed patten especially the back page. However, all instructions will be clear and readable. Such marks  should  be considered as "character" not faults and have been included to give an honest flavour of the original pattern and it's history over the last 70 years.

This is a another superb 1940s wartime pattern designed for men in the armed services which gave knitter the opportunity to knit a scarf, gloves, mittens and helmet for loved ones to keep out the cold whilst being on active service or on duty as Civil Defence workers. For this reason alone this is a super pattern to make items for historical reenactment and revival enthusiasts as well as for those who enjoy outdoor activities. All the items were originally knitted in a 4-ply wool used double throughout for all items, however, the pattern does suggest for the gloves that the 4-ply wool used singly could be used for lady's gloves. Regarding the vintage 4-ply, you may wish to try a modern D/K  in place of the vintage 4-ply as vintage wools were heavier than modern, but as always work a tension square if the tension information is given to see if a change of needles is needed to obtain the tension in the pattern.
