José Othón was born in Madrid in the late 18th century and was active as a portrait miniaturist in Paris (He is mentioned there between 1817-1840). Schidlof says he was a " clever artist who worked in the style of Rodolphe Bel." Some sources say he studied under Fernando Brambilla in Madrid from 1827, but we are sure they are talking about another Spanish artist of the same name ...
