'Native American Indian on Horseback' A beautiful bronze-clad sculpture that I am told was originally one half of a pair of bookends but the other was lost many years ago. It is believed to be by American artist Paul Herzel (1876-1956) but there is no signature visible to verify this. This belonged to my grandfather and was passed to my father sometime in the 1940's and is thought to be from the 1920's/1930's but again there are no marks or dates on the piece. This stands approx 23cm tall and the base measures 16cm x 6.5cm. Weight 1.1kg In excellent condition. From a smoke and pet-free home. Will be carefully packaged and sent via Royal Mail Tracked 48. I thought it was resin at the time and completely missed the artist's mark. I looked for ages and couldn't find him. Yesterday I picked it up and distinctly heard metal, so off I went again. Was about to post for help when I photographed the mark in just the right way and tried a new search. Finally found him! "Boy Reading" by noted English artist Karin Jonzen, a limited edition cold cast bronze on resin. I had thought he seemed 1970s to me, and turns out that's exactly his date. In her book she writes; 'About this time I started receiving a substantial source of income through royalties received from the firm of Heredities. This company was especially set up to publish editions of small sculptures with a new technique of cold casting, which gives perfect technical results, but which is far less costly than conventional methods. With this security, which I hadn't had for years, I was able to save enough for a 'one man exhibition' which took place at the Fieldborne Gallery in 1974.'" mirana, Sep 25, 2023 #1 + Quote Reply johnnycb09, pearlsnblume, Boland and 9 others like this. moreotherstuff moreotherstuff Izorizent What is cold cast Bronze Resin?
