Japanese Puzzle Box from the Karakuri Creation Group

Karakuri Creation Group (karakuri means ‘trick’ in Japanese) is an organisation for Japanese Puzzle Box designers and craftsmen based in Japan. They are often hailed as one of the best puzzle box makers by the world's most keen puzzlers. Its founder Akio Kamei is possibly the best known designer of contemporary trick puzzle boxes in the world. Hakone where the Krakuri Creation Group is based is where Traditional Japanese Puzzle Boxes originate from  and this is probably why there are so many talented wood craftsmen born and bred in this region. This 'Big Trick No.1' is a modern take on the traditional puzzle box made by the Karakuri craftsmen and although it takes only six moves to open, it is NOT the number of movements that matters! In other words, if you are a Japanese Puzzle Box connoiseur, you will need a different mindset to open this box!

‘Often the knowledge and experience of opening traditional puzzle boxes hinders opening a Karakuri box’ – the Founder Akio Kamei The box is totally handmade using only natural wood. The quality of the craftsmanship is second to none. It is so precisely made that there is very little to give away in terms of how to open the box.
