Having extensive experience in online sales, in order to diversify our activities in this difficult time of the pandemic, we created this online shop. At Kyrgyz Handmade, we specialize in the customization of one of kind Shyrdak rugs by size, design, and color, as well as the prêt-à-porter Shyrdaks that we share in this shop.

Our aim is to assist local artisans in providing overseas buyers with handmade goods for sale by providing convenient payment and delivery methods. The aim is also to popularize the rich handicraft culture of the Kyrgyz people and promote the incorporation and use of Kyrgyz handicrafts in local and foreign societies.

 

What is a Shyrdak?

A shyrdak is a Kyrgyz felt carpet, one of the oldest and, when it comes to felt products, one of the most complex in its technique. Felt art is an integral part of Kyrgyz handicrafts. It would appear to carry with it the entire life story of the Kyrgyz peoples. Each pattern is laden with the surrounding world, and the color schemes and techniques speak of the life and philosophy of the area in which it was made. After all, each region of Kyrgyzstan has its own unique character.

Since ancient times, and even now, shyrdak is included in the dowry of the bride. Each mother tries to make a special shyrdak for her daughter, carefully choosing patterns and ornaments, as it is through them that she conveys all her innermost desires and blessings. It is a labor of love. It takes about one year to complete the time-consuming, labor-intensive process, and requires the wool of five sheep.

The influence of globalization has led to a decrease in demand for shyrdak in Kyrgyzstan, and up until recently this craft was in danger of extinction as people stopped using shyrdak rugs altogether. In order to preserve the tradition and skills, the ornamented felt ala kiyiz and shyrdak rugs were included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in December 2012 as an endangered type of carpet art. Shipping

We are based in Kyrgyzstan which is called the heart of Central Asia. All our products are partly made by handcrafters who are from rural areas of Kyrgyzstan. We encourage all traditional production methods and do our best to help them. Some of our items are in prep stock in the USA to offer exceptional logistics cost and prompt door to door delivery. Please check the origin country in the listing.

STANDARD INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING via National Post. Delivery time 10-30 business days. 

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING via DHL Express. Delivery time 5-10 business days.

Custom shyrdaks for which you requested PERSONALIZATION we need 35 days for production.

Transit times with postal service vary depending on postal operational condition and weather conditions. Processing time: 2 business days. Note that we do not ship on the weekend or during holidays.

Customs and import taxes

US buyers: There are no import taxes or duties. 

International Buyers: Please note that custom duties and import taxes may apply. Customs fees are expected to be paid in the recipient if not agreed otherwise. Please get in touch with us for a quote on a DDP delivery (delivered duties paid).

Returns

30 DAY RETURNS PAID BY BUYER. All shipping charges to be paid by buyer. We do not refund shipping charges. 

Subject to the following conditions, we will issue refunds on products returned in their original packaging and undamaged if received within 30 days from the date of purchase.

Please return the product in its original, unused condition (including all original packaging and tags) within 30 days for a full refund.

To make a return, you must obtain a return authorization number (RA#) by contacting us at via eBay Messages. You will be notified by email to your registered email address on eBay and to eBay Messages within 48 hours with your RA#.

Upon receiving your return, the item will be reviewed by our Quality Assurance department. Please note that items showing signs of wear or those that have been engraved, altered, resized, or damaged in any way cannot be accepted for return. Returns with no Return Authorization Number, and packages that are improperly packaged or uninsured will be refused receipt.
