Genuine Rare Antique Native American baby/Child Leather Moccasin Shoes

• Genuine Rare Antique Native American baby/Child Leather Moccasin Shoes Lovely pair of little shoes that were mine as a baby (1970s). 

• The shoes were given to my mother by my grandfather Professor Trevor Thomas who worked in America as an Art Historian/ Professor for several years. 

• I believe he was in America from 1939-1940 & 1956- 1960 & was based in Buffalo New York but also travelled & worked in various parts of America including Texas & with many native American groups as he worked within art history & education. 

• Although I do not know which tribe the shoes came from, I have been told that they were given to him as a present & that my mother can recall him speaking a lot about the Navajo tribe. 

• I have found out that Apache tribe moccasins were often curled at the toe to protect from cactus spikes (which may or may not be relevant as these have a slightly curled toe which could also be due to age) but are definitely pointed. 

• If you google my grandfathers name you may be able to find out more than I know, but this is the best that I could date & find an origin for the shoes by as they would have been given to him at some point during this time. 

• The moccasins are in used condition & I believe they were already used before they were given to my mother as she says I only wore them a few times as she wanted to keep them. 

• They are leather (white upper with brown base. 

• They are stitched with a rudimentary thread, almost like a string & have stitched detail throughout including a stitched effect made to look like beads down the front middle. 

• They each have a red/ white & blue pom pom on the end of the toe which is in a pointed style. The pom pom is coarse, not sure what is made of but it has held its colour. 

• The moccasins are beautifully made, and considering how old they are, they are strong & yet the inside of the sole is soft. 

• They are obviously an antique item so in used condition with wear to the sole including a small hole on the sole of the left shoe. 

• Other than this there are no rips or tares & they are really in need of some tlc. 

• Although they have great sentimental value for me, I am selling them as I would love to see them go to someone that could restore the leather or preserve them as best as possible & would rather they went to a collector who would appreciate them, than sitting in my wardrobe unused or not displayed. 

• I have attempted to clean them in any way as this would need to be done by someone who knows what they are doing so they are being sold in original condition. 

• Measurements of each shoe: width- 7cm, length- 18cm, height- 4cm.
