Provenance /Publisher: This is a plate taken from ‘The Wilkie Gallery’, published by Virtue & Co., London, c. 1845.  (see scan of the frontispiece)

Authenticity: This is a genuine antique print.

Condition: Very Good. Suitable for framing. Printed on heavy weight paper. The print may have some minor foxing or browning, however this will mainly be confined to the margins and does not affect the image.

About the Artist : David Wilkie (1785 – 1841) was the son of the parish minister of Cults in Fife.   David Wilkie was born in Scotland into a poor family, but became one of the great artistic success-stories of the early nineteenth century. He achieved virtually overnight success in London in the 1800s with sentimental, narrative paintings of rural life in his homeland.
