These are four original Esso road maps dating from the 1950s, probably 1953/54. They are numbers 1,2 3, and 5 in the series. The covers are all illustrations by Blake, showing the areas which are covered by the maps. A period illustration inside shows a stereotypical family of the period in an open-topped tourer, with the pipe-smoking father at the wheel. There is no sign of a seat-belt being used, not even by the dog!
Each map, when closed, measures approx. 4 x 9 in (10 x 23 cm).
They do show some traces of wear, consistent with their age and use, with part of one rear cover missing.
They bear the stamp of their original retailer, A Herbert & Son, Rugby, which still operates as a cycle shop.
Post and packing in UK £1.75, overseas according to destination and postal service required.
