OVERVIEW:
The Digi EtherLite® serial port servers connect asynchronous serial ports to your network. Some models autodetect the p presence of either 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T Ethernet, allowing the unit to work smoothly in either mode. Super-fast speeds up to 230 Kbps are supported on all ports simultaneously. And since the EtherLite ports are real, local serial devices, they are not slowed down by network overhead common to some terminal servers. The result is simpler configuration, less Ethernet congestion, and a far lower cost per port.
Network Efficiency and Control:
The traffic from all ports is serviced by a single TCP/IP session, not the conventional one-session-per-port method. This means less overhead at the host and less traffic on the Ethernet . In addition, the EtherLite ports appear as local TTYs under UNIX® and as native COM ports under Windows NT®. These locally administered, “hardware-style” ports allow much greater control than is possible with standard terminal server ports.
Easy Installation
Because the Etherlite models feature real serial ports, they don’t carry the burden of TELNET RLOGIN, Reverse T E L N E T, or other complex network overhead common to other terminal servers. This makes the Etherlite 160 simple to install and configure. Just attach the units to a twisted-pair Ethernet segment, load the device driver on a UNIX, Windows NT, or Java-based host, and set the IP address. The simple instruction guide and automated procedures save you valuable time.
