Antique Victorian porcelain Fairing by famous German Conta & Boehme Delightful figurine of a girl carrying a vase? With a puppy tugging on her dress. To the rear is a match striker and match holder, and also a separate spill vase. Two tiny chips. One to tip of vase that the girl is carrying and one to left edge, inside spill vase. Neither are obvious or detract from the beauty of this piece and are to be expected given this is some 150+ years of age. This figurine was from my late mother’s collection of Conta & Boehme.  Early pieces such as this do not have the impressed marks on the base. Comparing this early figurine, with those in the collection that were marked, it is very evident they were made at the same factory. They are of simlar weight, the characters and subject matter is almost identical as are the paint colours and glazing.  Approx height - 4” Believed to be pre 1870 Prior to 1870, Conta & Boehme pieces were not marked. Examples produced after this time can be identified from either an impressed or raised mark depicting an enclosed shield decorated with a raised arm wielding a sword. From the 1890s, the shield mark was printed and the words Made in Germany were added to the base along with a four-digit impressed or incised design number from 2850-2899, or from 3300-3385. Some Conta & Boehme fairings do, however, appear with numbers outside these sequences. Please take a look at the photos and zoom in as these form part of the description. Thank you.
