The specimen was found in the “bottom cap” oil shale layer, which is by far the most time consuming layer to prepare fossils from, yet preserves them in such a brilliant manner as you can see from the fish itself here! This fish was found in a huge plate I pried up, cut down to adequate size, and then carefully prepared using the acid methodology for optimal results.
