Trader-BOB's MUSIC on facebook offers an Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer, (4 string), that I believe some one built from a kit. From the color of the wood, it could be cherry. The top, back, and sides are laminated, the fretboard, and headstock are from solid wood. This had no finish when I got it, so I coated it with tongue oil to protect the wood. It gives it a somewhat rustic look. It measures, 36-3/4" overall length, 28-3/4" scale length. Body thickness is 2-3/4". It is probably older than the mid 1980's, it does not have the 6-1/2 fret, which became popular on these instruments at that time. It is not perfect, but plays, and sounds good. Currently tuned DAA.
