Antique/Vintage Indian Shuttered Window Mirror. Distressed Turquoise, Waxed Teak

Vintage Indian Shuttered Window Mirror. Architectural Salvage. A rare, highly ornate example, finished in distressed turquoise. Stunning hand-carved top pelmet with floral motif.

Both huge, and a real statement piece.

This substantial antique wall mirror started life as a shuttered window in Rajasthan. Reclaimed from architectural salvage, made from the tropical hardwood teak and lovingly re-purposed as a mirror, it makes a great decorative statement. 

In a previous incarnation, it would have graced the walls of a grand 19th century haveli, a wealthy merchant's mansion. Or, more to the point, been responsible for supporting part of the fabric of the building.

Finished in a distressed turquoise with traces of sage green to the sides , with original brass fittings , it certainly has considerable age on its side and would add a touch of Bombay chic to any room in a contemporary interior. Turning your des res into a desi resi, as it were.

Shuttered mirrors also look the part hung outside in a garden setting against a distressed wall draped in a creeping clematis, or similar. When left open in a garden setting, the reflection suggests a secret garden beyond. Don't forget, as shuttered windows , they've already spent decades open to the elements.

Recently reglazed, wooden surface lightly waxed. Substantial metal hanging hooks to rear. Please look carefully at the photographs as they form part of the description.
