This is a fantastic antique Japanese paper mache lacquered box that is exquisite!! The detail is so good hence the period I have picked. But I am no expert and this is just an educated guess. Though it is solid as a box it does have issues. It is quite dull and dark.  I shot the pics with full sun in my sun room. Of course it is metal leafed. There are scratches on the lid as shown in the pics. Bottom has a few rough spots. 2 1/2 inches tall 3 inches across. As rough as it is .....it feels so wonderful to touch and hold ....very smooth. Plus as I said the detail is exquisite!!
