With regards to some of the history of the Couaillet Family, Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont: 'Since the end of the XVIIIth century clock-making tradition is perpetuated by the COUAILLET family in Saint-Nicolas d’Aliermont. Armand COUAILLET comes back in his native town, Saint-Nicolas d’Aliermont, in 1885, to take advantage of the industry’s development. He starts his career as a worker in the company of Albert Villon, the founder of BAYARD alarm-clocks. In 1891, he starts working on his own, subcontracting for the Saint-Nicolas d’Aliermont factories. On the 15th February 1892, Armand COUAILLET settles in a tumbledown cottage in ‘bout d’aval’ to produce and sell carriage clocks. In 1903 Armand gets associated with his 3 brothers : Ernest, Henri and Gustave. They found ‘Les Établissements COUAILLET Frères’. Each one has a precise position : Armand is the director and when he’s not there, his brother Henri replaces him : he is his right hand. Ernest supervises the workshops and Gustave is a clock-making worker. On the clocks produced between 1903 and 1925, we can find a special symbol at the bottom of the movement : an arrow with 4 dots, probably representing the 4 brothers. The 'Établissements Couaillet Frères' are famous for their production of carriage clocks'.
