1955 C.G. CONN 28A Long Model Bb Cornet, Case and Vincent Bach 6 Mouthpiece

This early model, Elkhart Connstellation 28A cornet, serial number 649100, has seen almost no use since new! It is in amazingly pristine condition. It is a genuine "closet horn" with no dents or wear. The only flaw on the instrument is one tiny ping on the bell tubing near where it exits the 1st valve. (See the 4th & 6th photos) The case is nearly perfect inside and out and both latches work properly. A new Vincent Bach 6 cornet mouthpiece is included since I don't have the original Conn mouthpiece. Everything works like new on this instrument, the finish is excellent in spite of its considerable age and it plays beautifully with a rich tone. This is also the most amazingly versatile cornet Conn ever produced.

This is an early series Connstelation 28A. It features an "Electro-D", 5-1/8" yellow brass bell, electrolytically plated with copper and then electrolytically plated with nickel. The leadpipe is nickel plated yellow brass.

What Conn said in 1959: "New Dimension in Tone" increases the playing power of this full sound cornet. Even tuning is the result of these exclusive features: Electro-D seamless bell, Micro-finish tone chamber, Cali-Bore, Crysteel valves. First valve trigger offers top flexibility. Includes new protective Lustre-Conn finish over polished nickel plate with brass trim. Length 21 3/8", bell size 5 1/8".

Many professionals use their 28A for both cornet and trumpet work, by using different mouthpiece cups. This cornet has a tonal "edge" which adds a beauty of brilliance for solo or ensemble playing. The 28A will serve a dual purpose, for many professionals use it as a trumpet or a cornet. By using a shallower and narrower cornet mouthpiece, this cornet could be made to sound like a trumpet. On the other hand, by using a deeper cup and a wider rim mouthpiece, the 28A would have a true cornet sound. This unusual versatility is aptly demonstrated by the serious student who uses this model in concert band as a cornet and also for stage band or dance band work as a trumpet!

It is priced a bit higher than the others I've seen on Ebay due to it's superlative, all original condition. Shipping is FREE within the United States.
