 Late 17th Early 18th Century

Wrought Iron Chimney Hook, Pot Hook, Trammel.

Circa 1720

You could say that the fireplace where cooking took place was really the heart of the house and at one time, most fireplaces had these hanging up inside the base of the chimney to support a hanging pot or cauldron etc. This was how our ancestors cooked food prior to the later luxury of having what we all now take for granted; 'the oven'. Forget 180degrees or gas mark 7, what you did was to lower the trammel to cook faster or raise it to simmer. It was as simple as that.

If your fireplace is in need of some extra character then this is for you. I have a number or these for sale, big and small, so I am sure you will find the one most perfect for your needs.

They are all heavy as you would expect for wrought iron and the dimensions used are just the short length from end to end and the extended length end to end. If you need any further sizes, please just ask?

Please note that the little hook at the top of the photo is not for sale as it was only used to support the trammel for the photographs.

Dimensions;

Shortened approx 127cm

Extended to full length approx 151cm

As these are always made by the local blacksmith and are scratch built by eye, they will of course not be perfect and as they are 200 plus years old they will of course have been used and worn accordingly.

As with all Antique and secondhand items, please be your own judge about age, condition and description before purchasing because I am no expert, just a collector.

I am having a major clearout of several decades of collecting and I shall be selling all sorts of things over the next few months with no particular theme so keep an eye out for my bizarre and not so bizarre items for sale.

Any questions or any further photos, please just ask and please, please ask questions before the end of the sale. A bidder recently purchased an item and then moaned about it after the event because he handn't read the description correctly.
