1779 Letter wrapper (The inside reused with a legal manuscript draft of a document probably around 1821) hence the crossing out of the address panel, the original letter addressed to Benjamin Adams, Merchant of Lime st in London, the filing endorsement reads " John Cambel Esq, Captain Ayres of the Terrible, Cowes 6 March 1779", with faint Two line ISLE OF / WIGHT postmark which seems to measure approx 36mm x 16 mm, and London Bishop mark date stamp for 8/MR

The Ship The Terrible was a Privateer Man of War.  In 1780  the Terrible privateer, of London, Captain Ayres, of 28 guns, foundered near Bermuda's, and 183 men, including the Officers, besides a great many prisoners, perished.
