Original hand coloured county map of Hertfordshire. Based on the work of John Ogilby, this example was taken from a book of reduced road maps entitled “Britannia Depicta” by John Owen and Emanuel Bowen, first published in 1720.
The front shows a small map of Hertfordshire and a brief description of the county. On the reverse is the part of the coaching route from London to Wells in Norfolk, starting from Newmarket in Suffolk and terminating in Swaffham in Norfolk. Also shown on the reverse is the coat of arms of the Brandon family and a description of the history and notable sites in the towns of Newmarket, Swaffham and Fakenham.
The map is in very good condition.
